Michelin and other development of packaging materials can increase dye-sensitized solar cells

NICHIBAN and the Shimane Industry Technology Center in Japan jointly developed a new packaging material, Nichiban UM, which can extend the life of dye-sensitized solar cells. Mikuni, who has been engaged in the basic research of adhesives, made prototype packaging materials and studied and analyzed the dye-sensitized solar cells at Shimane Prefecture Industrial Technology Center, which has contributed to improving its characteristics.

The encapsulant material developed this time is a UV-curable acrylic resin that can be hardened by irradiating ultraviolet light and visible light at a wavelength of 200 to 420 nm for several seconds. Compared with thermosetting packaging materials, it not only reduces the damage to the pigment caused by heat, but also improves the production efficiency.

This UV curable acrylic resin also has low moisture permeability and is not easily eroded by the electrolyte. After 1000 hours of high temperature endurance test, the performance retention rate of over 95% can still be achieved. In addition, because the packaging material is liquid, screen printing and dispensing methods can be used to meet the needs of a variety of shapes.
