Forbes magazine in the United States: Recently, a company in Niklasdorf, Austria, developed a boron-doped diamond electrode to purify water and disinfect it.

This technique alone does not disinfect the diamond itself, but the company's Aqua professor adds boron to the diamond particles, which makes the hybrid material conductive; when current passes through the material, the diamond reacts with water. And produce a series of oxidants: ozone, hydroxyl radicals and hydrogen peroxide; these products can purify the water by itself and play a role in sterilization. No other chemicals were added during the test.

The invention can be applied to the purification of daily drinking water as well as wastewater and rainwater treatment. Currently, the largest market for this technology in Austria is whirlpool, which uses diamond electrode batteries to replace traditional chlorine filters. In addition, in the food industry, including restaurants, farms and cheese manufacturing, this new technology can be applied to clean up food surface cleaning, cleaning vegetables and food production equipment. In the rainwater harvesting system, this technology can sterilize algae and maximize the efficiency of rainwater utilization.

As the inventor of the technology, Professor Aqua made a fortune in 2012 alone, earning nearly $564,467. Currently, the technology is only licensed to Professor Aqua's partner companies and is not intended for end-user individual customers.

Professor Aqua and Professor Staber at Leoben University have been working on how to disinfect and sterilize wastewater. According to their research, there are some unique properties when the diamond is energized. Accordingly, they use diamond electrodes to break through traditional water purification technologies.

Professor Aqua said that the cost of diamond electrodes is much cheaper than the water filtration devices on the market, and his research on how to place diamond electrodes on the plastic substrate is a very difficult technical challenge. In his view, this diamond is not so expensive, because this industrial diamond has already been mass-produced worldwide, not a rare jewelry-grade diamond diamond. Therefore, its market prospects are very good.

At present, Professor Aqua is studying how to use diamond electrodes to develop electrolyte water; if the research is successful, it can be used to kill the most serious fire plague bacteria in European fruit trees, and without adding any antibiotics, the environmental protection effect is very obvious. In the experiment, the researchers have successfully used diamond electrode electrolyte water to treat fruit trees infected with fire blight.

In Europe, water purification technology is very mature, and Professor Aqua is not worried about the future market prospects of his technology. In some parts of Africa and India where water quality is most vulnerable, this technology still has a large market space.
