The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor ITER project is a key step in realizing future commercial fusion energy. On the 26th, the first part of the ITER superconducting magnet system developed by the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Hefei Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was successfully developed. The magnet feed line system is one of the most complex systems in the ITER component. It contains 31 sets of different feeders. The length of a single set is 30 to 50 meters, and the total weight exceeds 1600 tons, totaling more than 60,000 parts. As a key integrated channel for powering, cooling, and providing diagnostic signals for ITER superconducting magnet systems, the magnet feeder system is seen as the lifeline of the ITER host.
The project undertaker has overcome many technical difficulties and has achieved many international leading results in core technologies such as high-temperature superconducting current leads, superconducting joints, low-temperature insulation, and low-temperature high-voltage insulation. The advanced high-temperature superconducting current leads developed by Wan'an lead to the integration of high current-carrying capacity, low-cooling consumption and long-lost safety time. It replaces the original ITER copper current lead design proposed by Japan and other developed countries, greatly reducing The operating costs of ITER and the construction costs of the previous cryogenic system have greatly ensured the safe operation of the ITER device host.
The Institute of Plasma Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences proposed the optimal solution for the ITER superconducting magnet feeder system and the ITER large-scale power supply and was adopted by the international organization. This not only eliminated the future operational risk of ITER, but also demonstrated the leading world technology level. The ITER task undertaken by us was 100% localized and passed the international assessment with excellent performance indicators. The first of the seven parties delivered the ITER site, and progress was among the top seven participating countries, creating a number of firsts.
