On March 20th, the State Key Laboratory of Silicate Building Materials was unveiled at Wuhan University of Technology. Chen Xiaoya, Vice Minister of Science and Technology, and Guo Shenglian, Vice Governor of Hubei Province, attended the unveiling ceremony. It is reported that the silicate materials specialty of Wuhan University of Technology has a history of more than 50 years. In the past five years, the laboratory has undertaken 126 national, provincial and ministerial research projects and 377 horizontal collaborative projects, with a total of 150 million yuan in research funding. The laboratory is leading domestically in the research of cement and cementitious materials, float glass, building energy-saving enclosure materials, high-performance concrete, environmentally friendly ceramics, etc. Some of the research has reached the international advanced level. According to reports, the laboratory will strive to solve the major basic theoretical issues in the preparation and service of silicate building materials in the future, while making it more environmentally friendly. At present, researchers are exploring the use of cement production to co-dispose urban domestic waste, use building materials to purify indoor air, develop low-environment load gelling materials and a new generation of float glass melting systems.
