Foreign media reported that a new type of water-based battery components may be the key to making safe, high-energy batteries that will not explode and catch fire. Although its current life is not as good as traditional materials, researchers hope to lay the foundation for further research. The most common battery on the market still uses lithium-ion solutions with electrodes on both sides. During charging and discharging, particles can move back and forth between the two poles. The electrolyte located in the middle can help the movement of particles. However, in most cases, the electrolyte consists of flammable organic chemicals.

According to Chunsheng Wang, an engineer and research coauthor of the University of Maryland, although there is a fireproof water-based electrolyte, water is not very lively, so this kind of safe battery is usually not strong either.

But now, researchers have developed a lithium-ion battery that uses a new type of water-based electrolyte. This electrolyte does not explode and the voltage reaches 4V - comparable to ordinary mailing electrolytes.

The battery in this study has been much better than other water-based electrolyte batteries. However, its short board is also obvious - the current cycle is only about 70 times.

Chongyin Yang, an engineer at the University of Maryland, said that in the future they will work hard to raise the cycle time of new batteries to more than 500 times in order to bring this technology to market.
