Semi-synthetic hydrogenase

Sinochem New Network News The Institute of Photobiotechnology of Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany has developed a new technology to prepare bioactive hydrogenase by semi-chemical synthesis, which is a large-scale adoption of biotechnology through enzyme catalysis. The preparation of hydrogen creates new possibilities.

Scientists mimic the structure and formation process of catalytically active bioactive centers in hydrogenases. First, a cluster of compounds composed of iron atoms is synthesized. The iron atoms are connected with carbon monoxide and cyano, which can be used to "transplant" compounds. "To the basic proteins with ripening effect, these proteins are combined with biological enzyme molecules that are not yet catalytically active, and the transfer of artificially synthesized iron-iron biocatalytic active centers to bioenzyme macromolecules is successfully realized, and finally formed. A semisynthetic hydrogenase having the same biocatalytic activity as a natural hydrogenase.

The preparation of hydrogen by enzymatic catalysis has obvious advantages in energy saving and environmental protection, and does not require precious metals as a catalyst, and the production cost can be greatly reduced. However, it is still very difficult to obtain a large amount of hydrogenase at present.
