Russia's first floating nuclear power plant to run for 16 years

Recently learned that the Russian nuclear power company (Rosenergoatom) and Baltiysky Zavod (BaltiyskyZavod) shipyard signed a contract to complete the first floating nuclear power plant in St. Petersburg, it is expected that the nuclear power plant will be commissioned in 2016.

According to relevant media reports, the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation had signed a contract to complete the nuclear power plant with the Baldish Zavod shipyard in February 2009. It was expected that the hull would be completed in 2012, but was later due to the Zawod shipyard. The bankruptcy situation itself has caused work to be hindered.

This time, according to a contract signed on December 7 in St. Petersburg, the Baldwins Zavod Shipyard will deliver the hull to the Russian Atomic Energy Corporation by September 9, 2016. It is reported that the floating nuclear power plant is named "Romonetsov" and will be put into use in Wilyushinski, in the Kamchatka region of the Russian Far East.

The keel of the first floating nuclear power plant hull was once laid in April 2007 at the northern shipyard (Sevmash) in Devinsk. However, in 2008 the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) stated that its construction was transferred to Baldishsky Zavod because the northern shipyard had already undertaken too many war contracts.
